In Extremo - November, 9th 2001

The Concert took place at the "Planet Music." I went there with a friend of mine. The concert was supposed to start at eight in the evening. Contrary to my usual practice I hadn't purchased any tickets beforehand. The band is not too popular and so I was sure there would be some tickets left. We arrived at the site only half an hour before the beginning and bought our tickets.
I saw a few of my Springsteen-friends but there were no familiar faces besides them. Since the music of In Extremo is quite similar to that of Corvus Corax, I had expected a lot of familiar people among the audience. When we entered the hall there were not many people. We could have easily got places in the second row. We preferred to stay in the middle and found good places on the side of the hall.

The supporting act was a local band of average quality. I can't say much about them. They didn't bore me, but they I was happy when their part was over and the crew started to rearrange the stage.
After the usual checks In Extremo finally appeared on the stage. The band started with full energy and did not lose any of it during the evening. Unfortunately I only knew one of their records and therefore a lot of the songs they played were new to me. It was interesting to see the different kinds of instruments they used. Their show was funny and the mixture of speedy and soft songs was good. They had the audience in their hands almost perfectly. Only a few times it seemed like the listeners did not understand what the singer wanted them to do.

This time I'm not able to write down a setlist. I tried to get one but there wasn't any to be found. I believe they didn't use one. Although they played about two hours, the concert was over too soon.

In Extremo played an encore of three songs and then invited the audience to join the aftershow party in one of Vienna's metal night clubs. My friend and me decided to finish the evening elsewhere. |

It was a great concert and I hope In Extremo will soon be back in Vienna with their next tour. |
