This was an unusual concert. The venue was a disco in Vienna, the "U4"
which opened at 10pm. The concert didn't start until 1am. Fortunately it
was a Friday and that's "classic" night at the U4, which means music I can
enjoy, mostly mainstream rock and pop.
I knew the band in it's other incarnation, called "Corvus Corax", from a
medieval market and the CDs I bought there. The music I knew was played
without modern instruments or effects. The group's main characteristic is
the use of many bagpipes, big drums and heavy rhythm. They call their music
"heavy metal of the medieval ages." "Tanzwut" is the modern version, using
computer effects, drums&percussion, e-bass and e-guitar.
At that time a friend from Germany was staying with me and so I talked him
into going with me. I must say I didn't expect too much. A friend had told
me Tanzwut was nothing like Corvus Corax. Supposedly the computer was
featured prominently. From what I've heard I expected a techno version of CC.
With that in mind I looked for a place at the wall, where I could sit and
had a good look at the small stage. I would estimate not more then a few
hundred people filled the room.

When they finally started playing I was relieved to find out I had been
greatly mistaken. Tanzwut is as heavy as CC. It was true, they use computer beats
but the comp FX don't feature prominently. The music was just like what I
knew from CC with the addition of a few modern instruments. They even
played some of the songs I knew.
I had to get to the stage. During the next few songs I slowly pushed
forward until I finally stopped in the second row. Now I really could
enjoy the concert. The band played for about two hours, including encores.
The crowed was a little too civilised for my taste but it was a very good
concert nonetheless.
