The "Donauinselfest" in Vienna, Europe's biggest open air festival attracts up to 750 000 people a day. Many bands play on different stages and there are other attractions. For various reasons I have avoided this festival until now. But on the last day
of 2000's festival Tanzwut was scheduled to play on the rock stage and so I finally went.
They were supposed to start at 19:15 and that was the time I arrived at the stage. They were setting up for a band and the speaker announced that they had rearranged the schedule and "Goldfinger", a band from the USA which was supposed to play after Tanzwut would start soon. Tanzwut would play after them.

So I took a seat at the rear of the area where I was still able to look at the stage and waited. Goldfinger started some time later. I was not very impressed with them. Their show was fun, but their music was average at best. Unfortunately, they had some
very loud fans and so were allowed to play an encore. When the band left the stage, most of the fans in the front rows also went away and so I was able to get a place in the first row.
Setting up the stage for Tanzwut took quite some time and I noticed that two members of the band helped with setting up and sound checks.
Finally started to play and it was great to see them again. They went from song to song without many interludes and the set was full of energy. I'm more a fan of Corvus Corax, their alter ego, and so I knew none of the songs. It didn't matter, it is great music to dance and jump to.

I noticed that compared to the last time I saw Tanzwut, they had added to their repertoire. Two years ago, they mostly played their Corvus Corax songs with added computer, e-bass, e-guitar and drum set. In their new songs the bag pipes and schalmeien are
less important and Teufel is on vocals almost all of the time. Only one song featured five bag pipes and that was among the best of the evening. The atmosphere was intense as always. It's just great to look at them and see how much fun they have playing.
Because of the nature of the festival, where everyone is allowed to participate for free, I suspect that there were a lot of people who did not know Tanzwut at all. But after only a few songs the audience was dancing and jumping to the music and cheering to the band.
They were only allowed to play for one hour and the organisation did not let them play an encore, although the fans demanded one and the band wanted to play it. After they had left, a nice security guy was able to get me a set list. It says:

Anyway, it was a great concert. I sure will buy their new CD when it comes out, but never the less, I hope they will continue as Corvus Corax also.
