I only bought the new album a few weeks before the concert and at first I was sceptical. The studio sound of the band is quite different from how they sound when playing live. But after a few days I got used to it and the CD was in the player for days.
The venue was the "Planet Music", a small concert hall formerly called "Rockhaus". I have been there on a concert only once before and liked the acoustic. I went with the boyfriend of my sister and we were at the hall at 19:00 to buy the tickets. Only a few other people were already there, so I was optimistic about getting places in the first row.

Sure enough, they let us in only half an hour later and we got our places in the front row. There was a notice about the order of bands for the evening. If I remember correctly, it was as follows:
Sunterra 20:10 - 20:40
Weißglut 21:10: - 21: 40
Tanzwut 22:10 - 22:40
I was shocked, Tanzwut only playing for half an hour? That could not be true! Even on the Donauinsel they had played for an hour. It had to be a mistake!
When we entered the hall the first band, "Sunterra", a young group from Vienna, was still doing soundcheck. They started on time and had to play in front of a small audience. I needed two songs to get into their music. I liked the combination of barking male singer and melodious female singer. The rest of the band also did quite well.
After a few song, they finished their set and I hoped the second band would be as good as them. Unfortunately, they were not. "Weißglut" is a German band and seems to be doing the whole tour with Tanzwut. I did not like their music. The singer seemed all tensed up and only shouted his text. The guitarist was only playing rhythm, when he was playing at all. I would not say they were really bad, I just did not like the style of their music.

When they were gone we had to wait another time for last changes to the stage and soundchecks. During the wait a video of the band kda (Krank durch Arbeit), the solo-Projekt of the drummer of Tanzwut was shown. I found it quite interesting.
When Tanzwut finally entered the stage the hall was fairly well filled, though by far not sold out. It only took a few beats to forget Weißglut and get my mood to top level. The band was again great and you could see they were having fun as well. That's one of the things I like about them: the way they interact and the glances they give each other. You can see they enjoy being there and don't take everything too seriously.
Teufel had us jumping in no time and we did not stop the rest of the evening. Of course, they played much longer then half an hour. They played all my favourite songs of their new album. (In fact they played all but one song of it.) Again, I was able to get a setlist after the concert. It reads:

We did not have to call long for the encore.
For me, the best moments were the parts with five bagpipes and the whole "Götterfunke". Again they were dressed in their *nice* leather outfits. The audience was great, too. At the end everyone was shaking and dancing. The hall was not full but this actually was an advantage, for we had more room. Still it was full enough to have a great atmosphere. The interaction between band and audience was also great. The band had the fans in their hands.

After the concert I bought the new Corvus Corax -CD (MM), which I have playing right now. I am looking forward to next month, when they will be again in Vienna, this time as CC.
A RPG-friend of mine, with a friend of his and I concluded the evening with a visit to the "Meggido", a heavy music bar. |
